Australia Day Award Nominations Now Open

The 2008 Australia Day Award Nominations are now open.

 Nominations are open for the 2008 Carrathool Shire Council Australia Day Awards and residents are encouraged to nominate a person or organisation that has made an exemplary contribution to the Carrathool Shire community. Nominations close 5pm on Friday 21st November, with winners being decided at the December Council Meeting.

The Australia Day Awards are traditionally one of the biggest civic events on the Carrathool Shire Council calendar, uniting the five communities within the shire and recognising the outstanding contributions made by members of the community. General Manager, Mr Ken Croskell says, “The Australia Day Awards are a way of publicly recognising the considerable efforts and achievements made by community groups, sporting teams and individuals within our Shire”.

The 9 award categories are:
Citizen of the Year
Young Citizen of the Year
Sportsperson of the Year
Junior Sportsperson of the Year
Sub-junior Sportsperson of the Year
Sports Team of the Year
Event of the Year
Award for Achievement in the Arts
Environment Award

Nomination forms are available at Rankins Springs, Goolgowi, Merriwagga and Carrathool Post Offices, Hillston District Office, Hillston Library, Goolgowi Council Chambers and on the council website at www.carrathool.nsw.gov.au.

Mr Croskell added, “All residents and sponsors are invited to the dinner and award presentation evening in Merriwagga on Sunday 25th January 2009”.
