Geotechnical Investigation - Upgrading of the Hillston Town Eastern Levees
The Dams and Civil, Water Technologies, (NSW Department of Commerce) commissioned the Geotechnical and Environmental Section on behalf of Carrathool Shire Council to undertake a geotechnical investigation for the proposed upgrade of the Hillston Town eastern flood levees in NSW. Fieldwork was carried out on 14 and 15 March 2006 comprised dnlling eleven (11) boreholes to depths ranging from 1.25m to 3.5m. Soil samples were collected for laboratory geotechnical testing.
The purpose of the investigation was to determine the conditions of the existing levee embankments and foundation, subsurface conditions of the proposed levees and assess geotechnical properties of materials from borrow areas. The report presents the data obtained from field investigation and laboratory testing and discusses the
above geotechnical aspects for design and construction of the proposed levees.
